If you’ve ever read articles about Pipe Burst he and I’m sure you’ve heard 1 million times that Pipe Bursting the only trenchless rehabilitation process that allows you to actually increase the diameter of the pipe being installed. This theory has been force-fed to the public for years and what you see regurgitated out the other end are projects that are asking to upsize many many times larger than the existing pipe. The puzzling question is is the capacity of the new pipe really needed or has the project been designed to be as large as possible because “we can”. Pipe Bursting can be a very reliable and consistent process when the increase or upsize requirements are low, but when a project requires multiples of upsizing The inconsistencies and risk start to come into play. There are a few different trains of thought but in my opinion, plastic pipe moves water much faster than clay or concrete pipe therefore these facts should should be used to determine the pipe diameter and flow requirements for the project.
